Industrywide U.S. auto sales extended a streak of declines of at least 25 percent dating to September, with Ford Motor Co. falling 32 percent, according to numbers released Monday.
(AP)
Dec. auto sales plummet Chrysler's December U.S. sales plunged by more than half, and it sold 30 percent fewer vehicles in 2008, dwarfing the steep declines at the other major automakers, as consumers remained uncertain about the economy and their jobs. Chrysler said Monday its December sales dropped 53 percent because of the recession and fewer fleet sales, while Toyota Motor Corp. reported a 37 percent slide, and Honda Motor Co. said its sales tumbled 35 percent. Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales fell 32 percent in December. General Motors Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. both posted 31 percent declines.

In the past, businesses could have up to three false alarms before fines kicked in. Now, the fine is $100 per violation right off the bat. A mass mailing alerted businesses to the abrupt change in policy.

If Sasha Obama thought bringing her Uglydoll along on her first day of school would win points with her classmates, she was probably right: kids think they're cool. The creatures were born in 2001, when illustrator David Horvath wrote his girlfriend in South Korea a love letter, ending it with a sketch of an orange, snaggle-toothed blob wearing an apron.
