Blinders not a good look for Burris; ambition in the way Mary Mitchell: Roland Burris, the man who would be the second senator from Illinois, is practically giddy. I watched his exchange with reporters as he prepared to head to Washington, D.C., and it reminded me of the last time I saw Burris.

Bradley would bring bat and baggage to the Cubs The long-awaited announcement that enigmatic outfielder Milton Bradley has signed a three-year contract with the Cubs could come Thursday. The Cubs said Monday that Bradley is expected in town this week for a physical, a precursor to finalizing a deal.

St. Charles boy proves good at playing bad kid Ethan Cutkosky isn't at all like he appears on the silver screen. "It was two hours in the makeup chair," the youngster said. The St. Charles 9-year-old, a third-grader at Bell Graham Elementary School, plays a major character in "The Unborn," a science-fiction horror film about a woman slowly being possessed by a spirit and her attempt to fight it off.

Dec. auto sales plummet
Chrysler's December U.S. sales plunged by more than half, and it sold 30 percent fewer vehicles in 2008, dwarfing the steep declines at the other major automakers, as consumers remained uncertain about the economy and their jobs. Chrysler said Monday its December sales dropped 53 percent because of the recession and fewer fleet sales, while Toyota Motor Corp. reported a 37 percent slide, and Honda Motor Co. said its sales tumbled 35 percent. Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales fell 32 percent in December. General Motors Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. both posted 31 percent declines.
