Wilco opening for Neil Young -- but not in Chicago Why is Wilco opening seven dates on Neil Young’s fall tour except the hometown Chicago show? The State of Illinois' school funding system violates the civil rights of its black and Latino children and should be declared unconstitutional, a lawsuit filed Wednesday by the Chicago Urban League contends.

Campaign 2008

Sports Improving Ramirez part of White Sox power surge The entire White Sox lineup has been clicking, but Alexei Ramirez has been especially hot. He hit a three-run homer in the first, making it 15 consecutive games he has reached base. During a longer stretch, the emerging American League Rookie of the Year candidate has hit .334 (100-for-299) with 13 homers and 50 RBI in 80 games since May 18.

Bears face QB who got away Three days after the Bears picked their man in the quarterback derby, they face the one that got away — or, more accurately, the one told to go away. J.T. O'Sullivan, twice an ex-Bear, is on the verge of winning the starting job with the San Francisco 49ers.

'Lightning' Bolt's gold medal act a breath of fresh air Jay Mariotti: He's a showboat, a hot dog and a clown, the sprinting version of Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens, all those things that cause Bob Costas and the purists to cringe. And thank God for that, by the way. Because if it wasn't for the show-business flair of Usain Bolt, we merely would know him as that fast guy who became the first man ever to break world records in the 100 and 200 meters at the same Olympics.

D-minus for 3-D

As it happens, I missed the press preview for "Fly Me to the Moon." It was a stupid misunderstanding, too boring to describe. My fault. I admit I was not inconsolable. After "Space Chimps," I had launched enough animated creatures to the Moon without starting on the insect kingdom. But even more to the point, "Fly Me to the Moon" was in 3-D, and I could all too easily imagine being "startled" by flies buzzing, ohmigod! straight at me!
