Harden-ed by his critics
Cubs right-hander Rich Harden wants to set the record straight. Check that. He specifically says he doesn't want to set the record straight. It seems he has been there, done that enough times for his taste. If people want to believe Harden is injury-prone or not tough enough for the annual rigors of big-league pitching, he's not going to argue.
Cubs shut down by Arroyo
Bronson Arroyo allowed three hits and a run in seven strong innings Wednesday night, and the Cincinnati Reds cooled off the Chicago Cubs with a 2-1 victory. Arroyo (11-10) tied a career high by issuing five walks, struck out four and was backed by two double plays in a duel with Cubs starter Ted Lilly, who held the Reds hitless the first five innings.
The Cubs are back in town, folks. After eight days gone, they're performing at the funhouse known as Wrigley Field for 13 home games in the next 16 days.
Cubs take care of Reds
Rich Harden allowed two hits in seven innings, struck out 10 and bunted in the go-ahead run for his first career RBI, leading the surging Chicago Cubs over the Cincinnati Reds 5-0 Tuesday night. The NL Central-leading Cubs improved to a season-high 29 games over .500 at 77-48. Chicago has won seven of eight and 17 of its last 21.
