Sox beat Mariners for 5th in a row
Ken Griffey Jr. had just crossed home plate for home run No. 609 when he turned for the White Sox’ dugout — a first in his career after completing his classic trot — and faced a surprise party of sorts. Such a milestone blast — one that tied him with Sammy Sosa for fifth on the all-time list — deserved a nice reception from his new teammates, complete with plenty of high fives, hugs and back slaps.
Improving Ramirez part of White Sox power surge
The entire White Sox lineup has been clicking, but Alexei Ramirez has been especially hot. He hit a three-run homer in the first, making it 15 consecutive games he has reached base. During a longer stretch, the emerging American League Rookie of the Year candidate has hit .334 (100-for-299) with 13 homers and 50 RBI in 80 games since May 18.

Step up for Richard
As long as the bats stay hot, White Sox worries about a fifth starter can stay on the back burner. Or, if rookie Clayton Richard's performance Tuesday is a true indication of his readiness, the worry might dissipate altogether.
Carlos Quentin's home-run power is spawning talk of American League MVP consideration. But just as impressive, and perhaps more, might be Alexei Ramirez on the radar for AL Rookie of the Year.
White Sox blank Seattle
Clayton Richard pitched six innings for his first major league win, Nick Swisher and Jim Thome homered, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 5-0 Tuesday night. A.J. Pierzynski added three hits and scored a run as the White Sox won for the seventh time in eight games and maintained a one-game lead over second-place Minnesota in the AL Central.
Almost a decade removed from his tenure with the Seattle Mariners, White Sox outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. still creates a buzz in the Northwest, especially now that he is back in the American League and facing his old team.
